Zo zagen we onlangs nog in Nederland dat de belangen van de Amerikaanse investeerdersgroep KKR in diverse popfestivals en uitgeverijen leidde tot boycots en verontwaardiging bij artiesten en auteurs.
In de podcastserie Music, Money & Mayhem horen we hoe Guy Hands begin jaren 2000 met zijn investeringsfonds Terra Firma platenmaatschappij EMI overnam om het bedrijf weer financieel gezond te maken, zonder enige kennis van de muziekindustrie. Dit leidde tot bijzondere toestanden. Zo lijdt Hands aan een aandoening waardoor hij muziek altijd voor de eerst keer hoort. En zijn plannen om The Rolling Stones te gelde te maken door middel van een realityshow leidde al binnen enkele weken tot het vertrek van de band.

The pressure is too much for EMI CEO Elio Sceti. He and his right hand man Ernesto are out, leaving the management in chaos. Another huge band has walked and the debt mountain is piling up. Guy Hands ends up in court for the battle of his life, and the writing is on the wall for this once great music company.
